Dal Tadka
Ingredients:
- 100g arhar dal/split toor dal
- 80g bengal gram dal / chana dal
- 1 big tomato (chopped)
- 1 tbsp. garlic (chopped)
- 1/2 cup onion (chopped)
- 1 tsp. ginger (grated)
- 4 green chilies (slitted)
- 1 tsp. whole cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
- 1 tsp. red chili powder
- 1/4 tsp. sugar
- 2 dry red chilies
- 4 tbsp. pure ghee (clarified butter)
- Salt
- 250 ml water + 50ml water
- 1 tbsp. coriander leaves (chopped)
Making Procedure:
Wash 2 types of dal and boil with 250 ml water into a pressure cooker. After 2 whistle remove from heat and keep it aside until steam dissipate on its own.
Heat 3 tbsp ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds & garlic. Then add chopped onion and fry till light brown. Add grated ginger and green chilies, stir for a minute. After that add chopped tomato, turmeric-red chili powder and salt. Mix well and cook till mushy.
Now add the boiled dal, sugar and water. Stir well and cook for 3-5 minutes on low heat. Add chopped coriander leaves, mix well and remove from heat.
Heat 1 tbsp ghee in another pan and add dry red chilies. Fry it for a minute and then spread it over the dal.
Serve hot with roti, missi roti or tandoori roti.
