Bhetki Phulkopi / Bhetki with Cauliflower

Bhetki Phulkopi

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium pieces of bhetki fish
  • 1 small phulkopi (cut into medium florets)
  • 1/3 cup chopped onion 
  • 1/3 cup chopped tomato
  • 2 tsp. ginger paste
  • 2 tsp. charmagaz paste (melon seeds)
  • 2 tsp. cold yogurt
  • 1/2. tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp. kashmiri red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp. + 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 2 tsp ghee (clarified butter)
  • 150 ml mustard oil
  • 1/8 tsp. garam masala powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 300 ml water 
For tempering:
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1/4 tsp whole cumin seeds


Making Procedure:


Clean and wash the fishes. Then smear 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder and a little bit of salt to the fish. Keep aside for 10-15 minutes. 

Wash the phulkopi and add it in already boiled hot water.Then cover the pot for 2-3 minutes. After that drain the water and put it into a colander for 5 minutes. 

Pour oil in a kadai and let it smoke. Then reduce the heat, add phulkopi and fry till they turn golden brown. Remove from oil and keep aside.

In the same oil fry the fishes both sides till they turn golden brown in colour. Remove from oil and keep aside.

Add bay leaves and whole cumin seeds in the same oil. When the seeds crackle add chopped onion and fry till transparent. Then add tomato and fry it till soft. Add ginger paste, charmagaz paste, yogurt, red chili & kashmiri red chili powder, turmeric powder, sugar and salt. Stir well and fry till the oil separates. 

Now add fried phulkopi and give a nice stir , so that the masala coated around it. Add water and bring it to boil. Now add fried fish pieces and cook it covered for 5-6 minutes. 

Remove from heat. Then spread ghee and sprinkle the garam masala powder over it. 

Serve hot with plain rice or peas pulao.
